Back in 1958, the Borgeais couple first opened the establishment, already called Vierge de la Réunion, which served meals for the neighborhood's artisans and their families.

The couple's daughter, on entering today's completely renovated Vierge de la Réunion, exclaimed, "You've succeeded in giving the place a new lease on life."

How right she was, because the building, marked for destruction, was saved only by determined efforts on the part of the neighborhood committee.
